The CSI A6120 housing seismic vibration monitor, designed for the CSI 6500 Mechanical health Monitor, works with electromechanical seismic sensors to provide high reliability monitoring of the plant's most critical rotating machinery. This single-slot monitor is used with other CSI 6500 monitors to build a complete API 670 mechanical protection monitoring system. Applications include steam, gas, compressors and hydraulic turbomachinery. Box measurement is particularly common in nuclear power applications.

The main function of the CSI A6120 Case seismic vibration monitor is to accurately monitor the case seismic vibration and to reliably protect the machinery by comparing the vibration parameters with the set alarm thresholds, driving the alarm and relay action.

The box seismic vibration sensor, sometimes called the box absolute vibration sensor (note that it is distinguished from the shaft absolute vibration), is an electric, internal spring and magnet speed output sensor. The monitor provides overall vibration monitoring of the bearing box in terms of speed (mm/sec or in/sec).

Because the sensor is mounted on the box, the vibration of the box can be affected by a number of different factors, such as rotor movement, foundation and box stiffness, blade vibration, and adjacent machines.

When field sensors are replaced, many are being updated to piezo-type sensors that provide internal integrals from acceleration to speed. Piezoelectric sensor is a new type of electronic sensor, which is different from the old electromechanical sensor. The CSI A6120 housing seismic vibration monitor is backward compatible with field-installed electromechanical sensors.
