The DeltaV™ MQ controller is an integral part of the DeltaV system under the Emerson brand and, together with the DeltaV I/O subsystem, makes quick installation easy and convenient. MQ controllers provide communication and control functions between field devices and other nodes in the control network. Control policies and system configurations previously created on DeltaV™ systems can be used with this powerful controller.

The MQ controller has all of the same features and functions as the MD Plus controller, with the same amount of memory. The control language executed in the controller is described in detail in the Configuration Software Suite product data sheet.

The advantages of MQ controllers are:

Increased productivity: MQ controllers are as responsive as MD Plus controllers and offer the same configurable memory as MD Plus controllers. Its Ethernet port is in full duplex mode with a maximum throughput of 100MB/ s, which results in lower CPU utilization while providing higher capacity for control policies.

Self-addressing function: The DeltaV controller has the unique ability to automatically identify itself to the DeltaV control network. When the controller is powered on, it automatically assigns a unique address - no toggle of a switch, no configuration, just plug and play.

Self-positioning: The physical location of the controller is easy to find. The LED lights on the controller panel can be set to flash, providing a strong visual cue.

Automatic I/O detection: The controller can identify all I/O interface channels located on the subsystem. Once the I/O interface is plugged in, the controller knows the general characteristics of the field device managed by that I/O interface. This reduces the unnecessary engineering associated with configuration and makes the operation much simpler.

Connecting electronic wiring and Wireless I/O: Starting with DeltaV v14.3, CHARMs and wireless devices connected via CHARM I/O cards (CIOC) and Wireless I/O cards (WIOC) can be assigned to MQ controllers. This makes it easier than ever to add I/O to an existing controller by simply adding CIOC and/or WIOC to the DeltaV area control network.
