The main communication module MVI69 is an IEC 60870-5-103 main communication module that allows CompactLogixTM and MicroLogixTM 1500 LRP backplane I/O compatible processors to easily interface with IEC 60870-5-103 compatible devices. Devices that typically support this protocol include relays, circuit breakers, substation communication modules, and other serial communication devices for power monitoring.

The MVI69-103M module supports up to 32 field devices between the two IEC 60870-5-103 main ports. The communication ports of the module can be configured independently, so that two independent field networks can be implemented. Field device data is exchanged between the MVI69 module and the processor via a backplane.
